5e Jump Calculator

Welcome to 5e Jump Calculator, a straightforward online tool created to fix a common D&D 5e table slowdown: jumping.

If you’ve ever been the DM who stopped a session to dig through the PHB, argued over if that chasm is actually jumpable, or tried to remember exactly how the jumping math works, this site is for you.

So, What Does This Site Do?

5e Jump Calculator is a simple online helper that automates the D&D 5e jump math so you don’t have to.

You provide basic character info—including Strength, height, and situational modifiers—and the calculator spits out your:

Maximum long jump distance

High jump height

Maximum reach during a jump

Other useful jump-related numbers based on the official rules

No page-flipping, no rough estimates—just clear results you can rely on.

Why I Built This Tool

This site was the result of repeated rules questions at the table.

As a DM who also plays regularly, I kept noticing the same situation:

A character wants to do something cool and cinematic with a jump, the entire table stalls while we check the rules.

The 5e rules for jumping are straightforward, just not when you’re under time pressure. I found myself reaching for the PHB over and over again, so I took the obvious next step: I made a dedicated tool.

5e Jump Calculator started as a personal helper, and then I turned it into a site so others could use it in case other tables were just as tired of flipping pages mid-session.

How It Works (In Plain Language)

This tool implements the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition jumping rules as written in the PHB. In simple terms, it:

Uses your Strength score to determine base jump distances

Considers whether you have a running start

Factors in your height and reach where appropriate

Respects the rules as written, without adding homebrew assumptions

You don’t need to know the exact formula. The calculator handles it and gives you the final, table-ready numbers.

How to Use It at Your Table

5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:

Quick enough for live play

Clear enough for new players

Reliable for tables that like to follow RAW

You can use it to:

Check whether a character can clear an obstacle before they commit

Design encounters with realistic jumps in mind

Resolve player stunts without bogging things down

Just enter the stats and read the output. It’s meant to fade into the background, not slow you down with options.

Where This Might Go

Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is focused on doing one thing well: it solves the jump problem and stops there.

In the future, I might:

Add more 5e movement-related tools

Cover more special abilities and conditions

Polish the interface and add small quality-of-life features

If you find a bug, or if you have a suggestion, I’d love to hear from you. This site is for DMs and players like you, and your input directly guides future changes.

Thanks for using 5e Jump Calculator. Here’s hoping it keeps your and your jumps heroic.
